Ways to Give Back and Give Thanks

Is there a more thrilling time of year than the present? There’s the change in the weather, time spent with family at home and the holiday season. Although there are downsides to the colder temperatures, there is so much goodness to look forward to and be a part of.

During this holiday season we hope that everyone can fill their home, but even more so the hearts of others, with love. Here are some great ideas on how to give back this year.

Donate

Many people are in need of basic necessities right here in our own neighborhood of St. George. Give back by donating food, clothing, or simply giving of your time. There are nearly endless projects to get involved in during the holidays that pay big dividends for those that choose to serve.

Create

Are you an incredible baker? Do you love to paint? Are you really good at creating crafts? Use the talents you’ve been given to better someone’s life. A warm loaf of bread or beautiful mural can change a person’s whole outlook on their situation. Your actions can brighten a day for a person who is struggling or just down on their luck.

Do Good

As you’re driving home from work or just out on a nice stroll, look for someone to help and lift. Write someone a letter or a kind Facebook message. Smile at someone you don’t know or compliment someone for a good quality you see in them. Call someone you haven’t talked to in a while but could use a pick-me-up. Pay for someone’s groceries or for someone’s food in the drive-through. The list is endless.

Give

Our world is often selfish and shortsighted. Surprise someone and give just because you have the capacity to do so. Don’t expect anything in return for your gift. Our world needs more people that give without the thought of a “return on their investment.”

This list is only the beginning to a holiday season full of true joy. We hope that your homes are full of love and thanks during this festive season.

How to Buy the Right Furniture for Your Home

A Few Things to Consider

11518719195_3421f77d37_z

The feeling you get when you walk into your home is important. Chances are, you have already walked into one of our new homes in St. George and felt like you belonged there. That feeling of belonging can be enhanced by the right choice of furniture.

Here are some tips on choosing furniture to help you know where to begin.

  1. Know What You Need

Asking the right questions before you start searching for furniture will guide your efforts:

How long do I want the piece to last?

What colors am I looking for?

How durable should it be? (Especially important question if you have children or pets)

What kind of upkeep am I willing to maintain?

These are just questions to get you thinking, but if you have a vision of what you need; it will be much easier to find furniture that fits into that mold. Think of it like a piece of Velcro on your head. If you are asking the right questions, then the answer is bound to stick when it’s right.

  1. Know Your Style

Deciding on a style will help you find a good collection of furniture that compliments itself. Here are some popular categories:

  • Casual: most common in homes today, comfy-looking earthy tones.
  • Modern: gaining popularity, simple, lots of negative space with sharp, angular and metallic features.
  • Rural: softer more laid-back feel, floral patterns that suggest a rustic atmosphere.
  • Traditional: antique pieces, dark woods and bulky furniture.
  • Eclectic : original pieces such as ethnic, artisan, and collector pieces.
  1. Know Your Lifestyle

Are you constantly on the go? Do you have several small children at home?  Do you prefer open space rather than another coffee table? Think about how your furniture will match your current lifestyle. Don’t buy for 20 years down the road, buy for now.

  1. Know Your Price Range

This isn’t as easy as you might think, but it’s important to at least try and choose a target number. Average prices vary widely depending on the factors we’ve already discussed, but in general expect to pay 15-25 percent of the price of your home to furnish your place with quality furniture.

  1. Know Your Limits

This happens to me every year at Thanksgiving, I come into the kitchen after our annual Turkey Bowl and the smells get my belly rumbling. I then commence to load my plate with a taste of every delicious treat offered and end up with far too much food for my belly to handle. This same principle can be applied to buying furniture. Know how much space you have and don’t overfill it.

St. George, Home Sweet Home

Four Reasons We Love St. George

homeWe love building our Ence Homes in St. George because we love living here. Warm weather, national events and a strong economy all add to the beauty of this great place.

Let’s start off with our very favorite reason, the weather. While the summers can sometimes get a little hot the year round temperatures are divine. And just for your gee wiz collection, the record high in the summer is 117 so if you love to be in the sun, St. George is the place for you.

Because of the year-round sunshine, St. George has some of the best golf in Utah. Which brings us to our next favorite thing about St. George. Washington County has 12 courses providing enough variety to keep you entertained from January to December.

Next on the list is national events. St. George always seems to be hosting a national event of some kind, which brings tourism for our economy and great activities for our families. St. George hosts one of America’s best marathons as rated by Runners.com along with the St. George half IronMan which draws in some of the most fit people on the planet. Another favorite event that is held annually every October is the Huntsman World Senior Games. This event draws athletes from all around the world. Both men and women ages 50 and over compete in 22 sports over the course of the two-week competition.

These events help add to our last item on the list, St. George’s strong economy. Because of the events, cost of living and low crime rates, St. George has enjoyed great economic growth the past few years. To give you a picture of how well the economy is doing, let’s take this year’s IronMan race. There were over 7,600 visitors that brought in $5.5 million to the economy. Out of the visitors, an overwhelming 82 percent said they plan to visit again. These numbers are a strong indication that St. George is growing and that property value will continue to rise.

Now you know some of our favorite things about St. George, what are some of yours?

Woodland, O’Brien & Scott Perform Survey to Ence Homes’ Homebuyers

The purpose of this post is to inform you of our very successful customer satisfaction survey project administered by Woodland, O’Brien & Scott.  We want to thank you for the huge response they received from our homeowners (more than 74% of our Ence Homes’ homeowners completed and returned the survey)!  Woodland, O’Brien & Scott tells us this is a fantastic response rate, and is more than statistically significant meaning it accurately depicts Ence Homes’ overall customer satisfaction.

Just last week, Woodland, O’Brien & Scott presented your feedback to our management team. The results were quite frankly, enlightening.  We learned that we are doing a lot of things extremely well.  We also learned we have some improvement opportunities, to make sure future homeowners have an even smoother and more enjoyable home buying experience.

According to Woodland, O’Brien & Scott, our Ence Homes Team near the nation’s top performers in terms of “Willingness To Refer their Homebuilder.”  We are not happy with this because we don’t want to be near the top in home building; we want to be the best!  Thanks to your feedback we know what we need to improve that journey.  Our goal is that customers ultimately love their homes and home building experience so much that they actively recommend Ence Homes to their family members and friends.   In that regard, we also want to sincerely thank the 75+ Ence homeowners who indicated that they are actively referring Ence Homes to family members and friends.  What a compliment!

Each of us at Ence Homes is extremely pleased that you chose our company as the builder of your new home.  In the few cases where we may have fallen short of your expectations, we hope to re-earn your trust during your warranty service experience.  In any event, we sincerely appreciate so many of you taking the time to share your opinions, suggestions and many complements.

Sincerely,

Tracy and Troy

Looking to Buy a Green Home?

Why Ence is Eco-Friendly

Building a home takes planning and good vision. But, building a home that is eco-friendly takes something extra special. Let’s take a look at why custom built Ence Homes are so green.

In 2011 Ence homes was selected as the leader in building eco-friendly housing. We achieved this high status in home-building because we don’t take shortcuts. Our homes are built with high quality, sustainable materials that can endure the blazing St. George weather.

Here are some highlights to creating a green home.

Insulation

This may be the most important thing done for your home. It keeps the cold air in when it’s hot outside, and the warm air in when it’s cold out. Putting the right insulation isn’t the only step to creating a energy efficient home. Sound design and accurate execution allow for air tight homes that keep costs low and your home more green.

Sustainable Building Materials

Using better materials costs more, but saves more in the long run. That is why Ence Homes always strives to use the highest quality of lumber and materials when we build a home for you. It is just another reason why Ence is a cut above the rest.

Using High Quality Materials

By this we mean that we strive to use CFL lighting and energy saving electrical appliances to lower the lifetime utility bill of a home. Again, this isn’t easy to do, but we work hard as we are building so that your new home in St. George is the top of the line.

Fresh Design Ideas for your Home

Our preferred interior designers at Designer Furniture Gallery came up with this about tile and the many uses that it has. You may also use these tips when designing your new home to give it that feel that you want in your new home.

Decorating with tile gives you an almost unlimited range of patterns, colors and materials.
The most difficult task may be to decide what kind of beautiful tile best suits your lifestyle and decor.
Tile is one of the oldest and most traditional of building materials, but it can also look totally modern, depending on the type of tile you select, the surfaces you use it for, and the way it’s installed. You can even add Southwestern, Asian or African accents with a carefully selected tile.
Tile is so versatile it can be used on almost any surface, including:Walls, Floors, Countertops, Fireplaces, Table tops, Even ceilings!
And what a variety of tile materials is available, including mosaics, marble, porcelain, glass, natural stone, ceramic, slate and terra cotta. There’s even porcelain tile that looks like wood for better stain resistance and moisture proofing!
One of the challenges of selecting tile is that there are almost too many choices – and they’re all beautiful! That’s why it’s helpful to work with an expert to pick the most fitting tile for your application. For example, bathroom flooring and shower floors need to be slip resistant. And for your kitchen floor, counter top or backsplash, you’ll want to select tile that’s stain-resistant and easy-to-clean.
Compared to many other hard surfaces, most tile is reasonably priced, long-lasting, durable and easy to clean without periodic polishing or sealing. Tile is also flexible because it comes in so many shapes and sizes, from tiny one-inch squares to giant 12-inch by 24-inch rectangles.
Tile surfaces can add beauty, style and durability to your home. They are so versatile – and come in so many choices – that you can create almost any look and mood.
